- Contest Eligibility.
The following persons are NOT eligible to enter the Contest:
- Employees, officers and directors of Sponsor, its parent, affiliates, subsidiaries, divisions, related companies, and agencies (including Administrator);
- Any member of the immediate family (parent, child, sibling, spouse) of any person in the preceding category, regardless of where they live; and
- Any member of the same household of any person in category (a), whether related or not.

For the US, following the posted instructions, submit contest entry through your Vans Family account to enter; for Canada, first provide the required contact information, including your first and last name and your e-mail address†, then, submit an original photo (and any accompanying caption, if you like) showing your latest creative pursuit, whether it's a new hobby, your personal artwork, jam session with your pet, or perfecting your skate game, we want to see how you are staying inspired while staying indoors. Your photo (and any accompanying caption) is your Contest entry. (If your caption is in Spanish or French, please provide an English translation of same).
†For United States residents, this should be the same e-mail address used to register for the VANS Family Rewards Program.
IN ENTERING, YOU (IF A MINOR IN YOUR JURISDICTION OF RESIDENCE, YOUR PARENT/LEGAL GUARDIAN) ACKNOWLEDGE THAT YOU HAVE READ, UNDERSTAND AND AGREE TO THESE OFFICIAL RULES. DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE CONTEST WITHOUT FIRST REVIEWING THESE OFFICIAL RULES.
- Entry Restrictions.
- Photo must comply with all technological specifications set forth on the Contest website.
- All entries must be received by 11:59:59 p.m. PT on June 5, 2020/6:59:59 a.m. GMT on June 6, 2020.
- By participating in the Contest, you (if a minor in your jurisdiction of residence, your parent/legal guardian) agree to these Official Rules and Sponsor’s/Judges’ decisions, which are final and binding in all respects and not subject to appeal.
- There is a limit of one (1) entry per day (12:00:00 a.m. [midnight] PT – 11:59:59 p.m. PT/ 7:00:00 a.m. GMT – 6:59:59 a.m. GMT on immediately following calendar day; except for May 4, 2020 which begins on 12:00:01 a.m. PT/7:00:01 a.m. GMT), provided that each entry is different from those previously submitted by a given entrant. Violation of the entry limit will result in only the initial entry on a given day being accepted; however, should Sponsor determine in its sole discretion that violation of the entry limit is repeated, egregious or blatant, ALL entries by that entrant will be declared void and the entrant will be disqualified from the Contest. Such behavior also constitutes tampering as per Rule 11 below.
- Receipt of an entry may be acknowledged by Sponsor (for residents of the United States). Any such acknowledgment shall not constitute any representation as to Contest eligibility, notice of selection of entrant as a potential prize winner, nor is it otherwise binding upon Sponsor.
- Proof of submission of entry does not constitute proof of receipt of same or proof of entry in the Contest.
- Photo (including accompanying caption, if any) must be created by an entrant him/her/themself. Joint, group, team or collaborative submissions will NOT be accepted. Without limiting the foregoing, eligible minors CANNOT be assisted by his/her/their parents or legal guardians or any other persons in creating their photo/caption.
- Once submitted, an entry cannot be modified, amended or supplemented by entrant prior to judging. Entrant must make sure that he/she/they is completely satisfied with the photo (and any accompanying caption) before submitting it as an entry in the Contest.
- Use of automated or programmed means of participation in the Contest is prohibited and will result in automatic disqualification of entrant.
- If a person enters by using a mobile device (including, for residents of the United States, via the VANS Family mobile app), standard message and data rates and/or wireless Internet access charges may apply. Entrant may be charged by his/her/their wireless carrier in conjunction with Contest entry. Entrant is cautioned to review his/her/their wireless carrier's pricing plan BEFORE participating in the Contest by using their mobile device; if you are a minor in your jurisdiction of residence, your parent/legal guardian should review the wireless carrier’s pricing plan before you enter by using your mobile device. Wireless Internet access may not be available in all areas.
- Additional Entry Restrictions- Content of Photo
Photo will be declared void and will not be accepted as an entry in the Contest if Sponsor determines in its sole discretion that the photo (including accompanying caption, if any) does not fully comply with the following content requirements:
- Includes content that may infringe the trademark or copyright or other intellectual property rights of someone else (e.g., brand names or logos, product names, events, professional sports teams, even color combinations, or photographs or artwork belonging to someone else);
- Includes a name or nickname or symbol or image associated with another person (living or dead) unless you have that person’s consent†;
- Includes content that may be or may contain images that are insulting, abusive, inciting violence, threatening, intimidating, obscene, inflammatory, sexually explicit, profane, offensive, harassing, derogatory, degrading, defamatory, harmful, discriminatory or unlawful or invasive of another’s privacy;
- Includes personal information (e.g., phone number, e-mail address) of entrant or any other person;
- Includes content that is not truthful in all material respects;
- Includes content that has been previously published; or
- Includes content that disparages or damages the goodwill and/or business reputation of Sponsor or its VANS brand.
‡Sponsor in its sole discretion may condition selection of an entrant as a potential prize winner and/or the award of prize upon the entrant providing adequate proof of such consent(s), upon Sponsor’s request and without compensation.
- Grant of Rights in Entry
In exchange for the opportunity to enter Contest, as good and valuable consideration, the receipt and sufficiency of which is hereby acknowledged:
- Entrant (if a minor in his/her/their jurisdiction of residence, his/her/their parent or legal guardian) grants to Sponsor and its designees the non-exclusive, irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free, transferable, sublicenseable right and license to use, perform, exhibit, reproduce and/or otherwise exploit his/her/their entry, in any manner and in any and all distribution channels, venues or media now known or hereafter devised, without further notice or any compensation to such entrant (if a minor in his/her/their jurisdiction of residence, or to his/her/their parent or legal guardian) ;
- Entrant (if a minor in his/her/their jurisdiction of residence, his/her/their parent or legal guardian) grants to Sponsor and its agencies permission to use and store any and all personal information in conjunction with the entry consistent with Sponsor’s applicable Privacy Statement♦, without further notice or any compensation.
- (III)Entrant (if a minor in his/her/their jurisdiction of residence, his/her/their parent or legal guardian) further
- waives any “Moral Rights of Authors” or similar natural rights of ownership that entrant may have in the entry; and
- agrees, upon Sponsor's request and without compensation of any kind, to execute any additional documents so as to effect, record or perfect the grant of rights contemplated by this Rule of these Official Rules.
- (IV)Entrant (if a minor in his/her/their jurisdiction of residence, his/her/their parent or legal guardian) further understands and agrees that
- Sponsor has wide access to ideas, stories, designs and other literary/artistic materials submitted to it from outside sources or being developed by its own employees and that such ideas/stories/designs/literary/artistic materials may be competitive with, similar to (or even identical to) the entry and that Sponsor shall have no liability to entrant (if a minor in his/her/their jurisdiction of residence, his/her/their parent or legal guardian) or any third party in conjunction therewith; and
- Sponsor and its agencies do not have any duty of confidentiality or other fiduciary duty to entrant (if a minor in his/her/their jurisdiction of residence, his/her/their parent or legal guardian) relative to the entry

Residents of Canada (if a minor in his/her/their jurisdiction of residence, his/her/their parent or legal guardian) consent to have their personal information transferred, processed and stored in the United States and allow Vans to use and collect their personal information in accordance with Sponsor’s Privacy Statement. If a resident of Canada is not comfortable with the level of data protection provided by United States law, his/her/their sole recourse is to refrain from entering the Contest.
In all cases, if you are a minor in your jurisdiction of residence, be sure to carefully review the Privacy Statement with your parent or legal guardian.
- Selection Of Winners.
- Winners will be selected via evaluation of eligible entries by a judging panel comprised of representatives of Sponsor and Administrator. The evaluation of entries will take place in Costa Mesa, CA and Encino, CA USA (and/or another location of Sponsor’s sole choosing). The judging panel will utilize the following equally weighted judging criteria:
- Creativity/originality;
- Maintaining positive connections with friends, family and the community at large notwithstanding challenges posed by social distancing;
- Having an awesome time at home notwithstanding social distancing;
- Alignment with the core values of Vans;
- Visual appeal.
In reviewing entries, the judges will take into account the age of the entrant.
- For Weekly Prizes, the judging will take place on the following dates at 11:00:00 a.m. PT/8:00:00 p.m. GMT:

The 20 highest ranked entries in the judging for a given Weekly Entry Period are potential Weekly Entry Period prize winners for that Weekly Entry Period. (However, if Sponsor does not receive a sufficient number of quality eligible entries during a given Weekly Entry Period, Sponsor reserves the right to award Weekly Entry Period prize(s) for a given Weekly Entry Period in a subsequent Weekly Entry Period or refrain from awarding such Weekly Entry Period prizes altogether in its sole discretion).
Each Weekly Entry Period will consist of all eligible entries received during that Weekly Entry Period as well as non-winning (eligible) entries received from preceding Weekly Entry Period(s), as appropriate.
- The Grand Prize judging will take place on or about June 14, 2020 following the completion of the Weekly Entry Period #5 judging. The Grand Prize judging will consist of all eligible entries received during the entire Contest Period regardless of whether an entry won a Weekly Entry Period prize.
The three (3) highest ranked entries received in the Grand Prize judging are potential Grand Prize winners.
- In the event of a tie in either the Weekly Entry Period judging or the Grand Prize judging, an additional representative of Sponsor will review the tied entries received during the corresponding Weekly Entry Period or for the Grand Prize judging (as applicable) as per the aforementioned criteria so as to determine the entry that is the potential winner of a Weekly Entry Period Prize or the Grand Prize (as applicable).
- Potential prize winners will be notified via e-mail. Potential Grand Prize winners (if a minor in his/her/their jurisdiction of residence, his/her/their parent or legal guardian) will be required to complete, sign and return a Declaration of Eligibility, a Liability Release and a Publicity Release (where lawful) within (3) business days of notification; potential Weekly Entry Period prize winners (if a minor in his/her/their jurisdiction of residence, his/her/their parent or legal guardian) MAY be required to complete, sign and return a Declaration of Eligibility, a Liability Release and a Publicity Release (where lawful) within (3) business days of notification. (An electronic signature or affirmation will have the same legal effect as an actual hand-signed document). In the event of noncompliance with these requirements (for Weekly Entry Period Prize, if applicable), if potential prize winner cannot be reached for any reason (including failure to timely receive/receive at all or timely respond to winner notification e-mail for any reason, including delayed delivery of winner notification e-mail or winner notification e-mail not being delivered whatsoever due to categorization as “Junk” or “SPAM” by entrant’s e-mail service provider, entrant’s e-mail box being “full” or any other cause); if entrant is determined to be ineligible or otherwise in violation of these Official Rules, such entrant shall be disqualified and forfeit the corresponding prize without compensation of any kind. In case of prize forfeiture, Sponsor in its sole discretion may select an alternate entrant as a potential prize winner from among all remaining entries received for the corresponding Weekly Entry Period judging or the Grand Prize judging, as applicable, in the manner set forth above,
- Prizes.
- (A)Weekly Entry Period Prizes (100 in total; 20 per Weekly Entry Period) -- Vans Custom Code. Vans Custom Code redeemable for one (1) pair of Vans sneakers (winner’s choice of Classics, Pro Skate, All Weather or Classic Lites), with an approximate retail value of up to US$95 each. (If actual value of Vans sneakers for which Vans Custom Code is redeemed is less than US$95, winner will NOT receive the difference in cash or otherwise). Total Approximate Retail Value of Weekly Entry Period Prize: US$95 each.
- (B)Grand Prizes (3) – “lifetime supply” of Vans sneakers (defined as 3 pairs of Vans sneakers per year, based on an average life expectancy of 79 years where winner is at least 13 years of age) awarded to winner and a front-line worker (i.e., a doctor, nurse, respiratory therapist or other healthcare worker; or, first responder, including emergency medical technician, police officer or firefighter) as selected by Grand Prize and identified by Grand Prize winner (if a minor in his/her/their jurisdiction of residence, his/her/their parent or legal guardian) in his/her/their Declaration of Eligibility, a Liability Release and a Publicity Release as per Rule 7 above. Prize will be awarded as Vans gift cards with a total value of up to US$10,000. Prize will be awarded as ten (10) Vans gift cards, each with a value of US$1,000. The total value of the Grand Prize is US$10,000. Vans gift cards are redeemable at Vans-owned retail stores in winner’s country of residence or on-line at the Vans website corresponding to one’s country of residence (e.g., for Canadian residents, www.vans.ca, for United States residents, www.vans.com). Award of Grand Prize is subject to winner's compliance with Vans' prohibition on "bulk buys," including without limitation: (a) only one (1) $1000 Vans gift card may be redeemed per day; (b) use of a Vans gift card to purchase more than three (3) pairs of Vans sneakers of the same style/color/size or more than three (3) of the same Vans clothing or accessory item; (c) attempted re-sale of Vans sneakers, clothing, accessories obtained via redemption of Vans gift card. Winner (if a minor in his/her/their jurisdiction of residence, his/her/their parent or legal guardian) acknowledges that the determination of prohibited "bulk buy" activity will be determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion and violation of Vans "bulk buy" prohibition constitutes tampering as per Rule 11.
- Prize Restrictions.
- For Weekly Entry Period Prize, Vans Custom Code is subject to terms and conditions of use as well as Vans “Customs” page of the Vans website corresponding to one’s country of residence. without limiting the foregoing, Vans Custom Code is not a gift certificate/gift card, must be used within the period indicated thereon/provided therewith and cannot be redeemed in conjunction with any other offer/promotion/coupon/discount.
- For Grand Prize, Vans gift cards are subject to terms and conditions of use; without limiting the foregoing, Vans gift cards do not expire and are not subject to dormancy or other fees of any kind.
- If Grand Prize winner is disqualified and forfeits Grand Prize, front-line worker identified by such disqualified Grand Prize winner will also be disqualified and will not receive matching Grand Prize. To receive matching Grand Prize, front-line worker identified by Grand Prize winner must complete, sign and return a Declaration of Eligibility, a Liability Release and a Publicity Release within (3) business days of notification of corresponding Grand Prize winner. The Declaration of Eligibility, Liability Release and Publicity Release must be accompanied by satisfactory proof of an individual’s status as a front-line worker. In the event of front-line worker’s noncompliance with this requirement or if front-line worker is determined to be ineligible or otherwise in violation of these Official Rules, such front-line worker will forfeit the matching Grand Prize. In such case, Sponsor may but is in no way obligated to allow Grand Prize winner to identify a replacement front-line worker. (Forfeiture of matching Grand Prize by front-line worker will not affect the eligibility of Grand Prize winner to receive a Grand Prize). If Grand Prize winner fails to identify a front-line worker in his/her/their Declaration of Eligibility, Liability Release and Publicity Release, matching Grand Prize for such Grand Prize winner will not be awarded and Sponsor will have no liability for same.
- If Grand Prize winner is a front-line worker, such Grand Prize winner must identify another front-line worker to receive matching Grand Prize. In no event will the same individual receive both a Grand Prize and a matching Grand Prize.
- Limit of one (1) Weekly Entry Period Prize per person. Limit of one (1) Grand Prize or matching Grand Prize per person, family, address or household.
- For all Prizes:
- (1)If won by a minor in his/her/their jurisdiction of residence, the prize may be awarded to his/her/their parent or legal guardian on the winner’s/front-line worker’s behalf.
- (2)No prize substitution permitted except by Sponsor due to unavailability of prize for any reason and only then for prize of equal or greater value.
- (3)Prizes are not transferable (with the sole exception of Grand Prize winner identifying front-line worker to receive matching Grand Prize).
- (4)Prizes must be accepted as awarded.
- (5)Prizes are not redeemable or exchangeable for cash or credit (with the sole exception of Vans gift cards/Grand Prize where required by applicable law).
- (6)Unspecified expenses in conjunction with acceptance and use of prize(s) are the winner’s/front-line worker’s sole responsibility; this includes Weekly Entry Period Prize winner’s redemption of Vans Custom Code for a pair of Vans Customs sneakers with a value in excess of US$95).
- (7)All taxes on value of prize(s) are the winner’s/front-line worker’s sole responsibility; for winners who are residents of Canada, taxes may include U.S. foreign withholding tax. Sponsor will issue Grand Prize winner/front-line worker an IRS 1099 Tax Form (or similar IRS Tax Form if a resident of Canada) reflecting the value of the Grand Prize or the aggregate value of the Grand Prize and Weekly Entry Period Prize (as applicable). Sponsor will also report Grand Prize winner’s/front-line worker’s receipt of prize(s) to the Internal Revenue Service and other relevant tax authorities as required by applicable law. Grand Prize winner/front-line worker (if a minor in his/her/their jurisdiction of residence, his/her/their parent or legal guardian) agrees to fully cooperate with Sponsor relative to its compliance with Internal Revenue Service and other governmental tax reporting requirements, including by completing an IRS W9 Tax Form with their Social Security Number (or similar IRS Tax Form with analogous identifying information if a resident of Canada).
- Releases.
- Where legal, by accepting prize(s), winner and front-line worker (if a minor in his/her/their jurisdiction of residence, his/her/their parent or legal guardian) each agree to the use of their name, likeness, photo, voice, biographical information, image and other indicia of his/her persona/identity by Sponsor and its designees in perpetuity for advertising/publicity/trade purposes without further compensation or notice. Front-line worker (if a minor in his/her/their jurisdiction of residence, his/her/their parent or legal guardian) further agrees, upon Sponsor’s request and without further compensation, to use commercially reasonable efforts to secure a similar grant of rights from the hospital, clinic or other institution where he/she is employed as a front-line worker.
- By participating in the Contest, entrant/front-line worker (if a minor in his/her/their jurisdiction of residence, his/her/their parent or legal guardian) releases and agrees to hold harmless Sponsor, Administrator, their respective parents, affiliates, divisions, related companies and subsidiaries, and the directors, officers, agents, representatives, shareholders, employees, successors and assigns of any of the above organizations, as well as Facebook, Inc./Instagram and Twitter, Inc., from any and all liability arising from the Contest or acceptance, possession, receipt or use/misuse of prize(s). The preceding includes but is not limited to damage to mobile device/computer (or information/data stored thereon) used by entrant to participate in the Contest. The preceding excludes the negligence of Sponsor and/or Administrator to the extent such release of rights is prohibited by applicable law.
- Conditions of Participation.
- Sponsor and its agencies are not responsible for entries that are late, lost, garbled, incomplete, inaccessible/blocked, corrupted, jumbled, misdirected, delayed or damaged, regardless of cause, all of which are void; for technological, programming, electronic, or other error/malfunction/failure of any kind which interferes with the advertising/offering of the Contest in any respect (including, but not limited to, accessibility and/or availability of Contest Website). Sponsor’s/Administrator’s failure to enforce any provision of these Official Rules in a given instance shall not constitute the waiver of such provision.
- For Québec Residents: Any litigation respecting the conduct or organization of a publicity contest may be submitted to the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux for a ruling. Any litigation respecting the awarding of a prize may be submitted to the Régie only for the purpose of helping the parties reach a settlement.
- In the event of any inconsistency between the English language version of these Official Rules and the Spanish or French translation of same, the English language version will prevail, govern and control in all respects.
- This Promotion is in no way sponsored, endorsed or administered by, or otherwise associated with, Facebook, Instagram or Twitter.
- TAMPERING WITH THE CONTEST AS WELL AS INTERFERING WITH THE INTENDED OPERATION OF THE CONTEST OR SEEKING TO DEFRAUD SPONSOR AND/OR THE ADMINISTRATOR IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE CONTEST (INCLUDING A GRAND PRIZE WINNER’S IDENTIFICATION OF FRONT-LINE WORKER TO RECEIVE MATCHING GRAND PRIZE OR A FRONT-LINE WORKER’S REPRESENTATION AS TO HIS/HER/THEIR STATUS) WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION OF WINNER/FRONT-LINE WORKER, IF APPLICABLE; AND, SPONSOR MAY PROHIBIT ANY PERSON DETERMINED TO BE ENGAGED IN SUCH ACTIVITIES FROM PARTICIPATION IN FUTURE SWEEPSTAKES OR CONTESTS SPONSORED BY VANS, AND/OR PURSUE LEGAL SANCTIONS AGAINST SUCH PERSON.
- Force Majeure. If Sponsor determines in its sole discretion that the Contest – in whole or in part – is delayed, prevented, made inadvisable or illegal or cannot be conducted as originally planned due to any cause beyond its control, including without limitation war, invasion, act of foreign or domestic enemy, terrorist threats or acts, hostilities, civil disorder, war or rebellion (whether war be declared or not), shortage of adequate power, computer virus/bug, tampering, fraud, natural disaster, materials, manufacturing capacity or transportation or shipping facilities, disease, sickness, epidemic or pandemic, government order or law, action by any federal, state or local governmental authority, national or regional emergency, strike, riot, lockout or other industrial dispute, flood, fire, tornado, hurricane, earthquake or explosion, or act of God (each, a “Force Majeure Event”), Sponsor may cancel, modify or suspend the Contest and make the prize(s) available to be won in the affected Weekly Entry Period(s) and/or Grand Prize judging based on its evaluation of all eligible entries received for such affected Weekly Entry Period(s) or the Grand Prize judging (as applicable) prior to and/or after the action taken by Sponsor or otherwise in a manner that Sponsor in its sole discretion determines is fair, appropriate and consistent with these Official Rules. In such event, Sponsor will post a notice to such effect on the Contest Website.
- Dispute Resolution/Choice of Law. To the fullest extent permitted by law, entrant (if a minor in his/her/their jurisdiction of residence, his/her/their parent or legal guardian) agrees that:
- any and all disputes regarding the Contest or these Official Rules shall be governed by the internal, substantive law of the State of California, USA (i.e., without regard to choice of law/conflict of law rules of the State of California or of any other jurisdiction);
- entrant is subject to the personal and exclusive jurisdiction of the United States District Court for the Central District of California, Southern Division or California State court situate in Orange County, California, USA;
- entrant (if a minor in his/her/their jurisdiction of residence, his/her/their parent or legal guardian) waives any right of change of venue, inconvenient forum or the like;
- any action will be brought by entrant (if a minor in his/her/their jurisdiction of residence, his/her/their parent or legal guardian) individually (NOT as part of a class action);
- entrant’s recovery in any such action is limited to actual costs involved in participating in the Contest (if any), with all rights to attorneys’ fees and any and all damages (including special, compensatory, punitive, consequential damages) being expressly waived.
If the preceding or any other provision of these Official Rules is determined by a court of competent jurisdiction to be invalid, illegal or unenforceable, it shall be replaced by a substitute provision that most closely approximates the original intent of Sponsor and is valid, legal and enforceable. The invalidity/illegality/unenforceability of a given provision shall not affect the remainder of these Official Rules.
- Winners’ List. For winners’ list, send a self-addressed stamped envelope to “Make Something Creative Contest Winners,” c/o VANS, 1588 South Coast Drive, Costa Mesa, CA 92626 USA ATTN: MAKE SOMETHING CREATIVE VANS FAMILY CONTEST. Residents of Canada may omit return postage. Winners’ list requests must be received by June 22, 2020. Winners’ list will be available after July 1, 2020.
