May's best trick contest was on the movable flat bar. The locals seemed hyped on it as everyone had something they could pull on it. We moved the flatbar in the middle of the street course so the spectators upstairs could watch the madness. When we began at 7:15, there were about 15 peeps signed up for it, mostly locals. It started off strong with a lot of them knocking out simple tricks like frontside board, crooks, and 50-50's. Once they banged the easier tricks out , they started bringing out the hammers. Brian Abraham, park local, unleashed a flurry of tech tricks from BS 270 board to kickflip and a backtail to fakie. Some of the contestants decided to watch from this point as they couldn't keep up with the gnar like that. About 7 hung in there for more...Matt B rocked a kickflip frontside board, Alex T went for a blunt fs bigspin, and Tyler Ramos 50-50 board to lip. Brian kept knocking em back though with a huge bag of tricks one after another. As time ticked down Ryan M was the only threat to Brian with a front 270 board, but couldn't land it cleanly before the contest ended. Brian Abraham takes the free kicks and his fifth BT title with a half cab Noseslide 270 out. Nuts right! We will switch from tech to air next month on the loading dock ramp.
Whew! Boy, are the temperatures rising here in Orlando! You can't even walk down to your mailbox and back with out sweating out a t-shirt. Good thing the Best Trick was inside tonight!
In the cozy air conditioned skatepark we host this month's best trick on the Main Street Course High Bar. As an intimidating obstacle, only two contenders stepped out to the plate to skate the enlarged flatbar. With only seconds left into the contest Jacob Watkins really went bonkers! Starting out with a smooth frontside bluntslide back to regular. Coming back to the rail and hitting a backside over crook second try! He thought it was kind of sketchy so Jacob shrugged his shoulders and perfected another backside overcrook back-to-back! Killer! The second skater was Robert Deliz, former employee but full time local here at the park. He came out swinging with a boardslide to fakie and the followed up with a frontside boardslide to fakie. Robert then tried another frontboard but he looked like he was going to take another one to fakie. We all thought "Hm, weird." But then Robert tricked all of us with a frontboard 270 out! That's a frontboard slide to fakie and revert! Robert blew all of us away and the contest! Congratulations to Robert for doing what he does best to get a free pair of Vans! Come check out our next Best Trick Contest where we are hosting it indoors again and on the Main Street Course Hubbas!
